Italian Greyhounds |
|
| In general appearance the Italian Greyhound has typical Greyhound lines; however, it is diminutive in size, more slender in all proportions, and has ideal elegance and grace. The Italian Greyhound measures approximately 14 inches at the withers and will weigh up to 10 pounds. The Italian Greyhound moves with a proudly held head and high-stepping gait, very much like that of a well-trained carriage horse. |

| Many qualities make the Italian Greyhound an excellent house pet. Because of his small size and quiet disposition, he is perfect for the person living in an apartment. Though fragile in appearance, the Italian Greyhound is very hardy and seldom ill. He is not a "yapper". When other dogs in the neighborhood start barking, the Italian Greyhound does not join in. Interestly, their bark is deep for their size. Italian Greyhounds are exceptionally clean and have no offensive doggy ordor. Being with people is the foremost desire of Italian Greyhounds, even to the exclusion of other dogs. They make ideal pets for shut-ins, and are good car riders. Getting along with other dogs and cats comes naturally to the Italian Greyhound. Their excellent temperament make them ideal companions for children. They can easily learn to understand verbal commands and hand signal without any noticeable training. For this reason, they respond well to obedience training. The Italian Greyhound is one of the first dogs developed specifically to be a pet. | |
