Former Racing Greyhounds |
|
A common question is whether former racing greyhounds (often obtained through greyhound adoption) may compete in coursing events. The answer is YES! In fact many of the MAHA members own and course racing greyhounds. Before beginning to course with your Greyhound please read the article How To Get Started In Lure Coursing. In order to register for a competition, you will need the ILP number. An ILP is a number issued by the AKC to individual dogs that cannot be given the regular AKC registration (such as ex-racing greyhounds). A greyhound's registered track number is the NGA number which is tattooed in their left ear. Participation in a practice does not require the ILP number. |
| Greyhound Adoption |
| Adoption of a former racing greyhound should always be done through an adoption group. Adoption groups carefully manage their relationship with greyhound tracks and their management. |
| Foster Homes Desperately Deeded |
Seasonal track closings are straining the facilities available to save Greyhounds that will otherwise be destroyed. Please help the Triangle Greyhound Society of North Carolina by fostering a greyhound, even short stays of one week would be a tremendous help. If you can help contact Ken Culbreth at telephone number (919) 743-6263. Expenses for food and medicine will be taken care of by the Triangle Greyhound Society. |
